Comparative Study on Sediment Delivery from Two Small Catchments within the Lena River, Siberia

This paper studies the possibility of using WaTEM/SEDEM model to assess sediment yield from catchment area within Lena River catchment. The study was carried out based on a comparison predicted data and measured suspended at gauging stations state monitoring network Russia. performed two areas, with plain mountainous relief. first site is located river Chara an 4150 km2. second rests between Tabaginskiy Kangalassky capes near Yakutsk city. this 15,740 values “Yakutsk” are in much better agreement than “Chara” area. remained almost unchanged period 1986–2019 amounted 3.5 t/km2, while Tabaga station slightly increased 7 9.45 t/km2 per year.

[1] Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)–derived measurements of Lena River effective width (We) display a high predictive capacity (r 2 = 0.81, mean absolute error < 25%) to forecast downstream discharge conditions at Kusur station, some 8 d and 700 km later. Satellite-derived mean flow propagation speed (88 km d 1 or 1.01 m s ) compares well with that estimated from ground da...

Tracing suspended sediment sources in catchments and river systems.
Recent years have seen a growing awareness of the wider environmental significance of the suspended sediment loads transported by rivers and streams. This includes the importance of fine sediment in the transport of nutrients and contaminants, including phosphorus (P). Sediment source exerts a key control on the physical and geochemical properties of suspended sediment, including its P content,...
